Montclair is a city on the west edge of San Bernardino County. It has a skate park, a city hall/ library complex with a low-budget 60s modernist vibe that I sort of like …
… and an eponymous shopping mall. Over the weekend, I ate dinner at the Romano’s Macaroni Grill at the Montclair Mall. The food, to paraphrase my brother in law, was a lot less crappy than the olive garden.
But I’m not here to review their food. I’m here to review the nutritional info sheet that was helpfully inserted in their menu.
I’ve written before about the new California menu labeling law that kicks in in 2011. Kudos to Romano’s for making info available ahead of schedule. In the grand tradition of my earlier analysis of the Chilis menu, I scoured the macaroni etc to find the most caloric combo of starter, main course and dessert. A Romano’s sampler, parmeson crusted sole, and smothered chocolate cake clocks in at 4490 calories and almost 100 grams of saturated fat (plus the appetizer and entree each individually exceed the 2000 mg daily recommended limit for sodium). To be fair, you can build your own pasta and, with assistance from the nutrition sheet, keep it healthy.
